Having been first involved in grassroots politics as a high-school volunteer for the Washtenaw County Republican Party during the 1996 election cycle, Rob quickly learned the importance of grassroots oriented, focused political and issue campaigns. Two years later, he was helping to manage the successful four-way contested primary and general election campaigns of former Republican State Representative Gene DeRossett, for whom he later served as District Coordinator, and Legislative Assistant / Director of Constituent Relations.
The 2001 reapportionment process drastically changed DeRossett’s House district, creating what many Lansing pundits considered to be an un-winnable, heavily Democratic district. Directing a successful $200,000+ fundraising and re-election effort in 2002, Rob helped to beat the odds and return DeRossett to Lansing for a third and final term. Rob went on to manage DeRosstt’s campaign for the United States Congress (MI-7) in 2004. That campaign broke numerous fundraising records, having raised over $400,000 in individual contributions for the six-way contested primary.
In 2005, Rob joined the Michigan Republican Party as its Director of Candidate & Party Assistance. In that role, he served as Chairman Saul Anuzis’ liaison to the party’s elected officials, state and local party leadership, and advisor to candidates at all levels. In addition, Rob was the lead staff member for major party events, including five state party conventions and the 2007 Michigan Republican Party Presidential Primary Candidates Debate jointly sponsored with CNBC, MSNBC, and the Wall Street Journal.
In 2008, Anuzis announced his candidacy for Chairman of the Republican National Committee. In order to exponentially increase support for the campaign among Republican activists throughout the country, Rob helped to implement Web 2.0 strategies using applications such as Facebook, Ning, Twitter, and YouTube. The campaign quickly gained national media attention for its innovative use of technology and social networking platforms.
In 2009, along with his wife and partner, Rob formed The Macomber Group, LLC to provide targeted, grassroots campaign, issues, and event management strategies and services to Republican candidates and conservative organizations. The firm is an exclusive consulting partner of The Sterling Corporation, located in Lansing, Michigan.A graduate of Northwood University, Rob is a member of the Michigan Republican Seventh District Executive Committee, and serves as Treasurer of the Michigan Young Republicans, a statewide organizations for those ages 18-40. He is a 2009 Fellow of the Michigan Political Leadership Program at Michigan State University.
Rob and Lindsay reside in Grand Ledge, Michigan with their two sons, Bennett John and Chase Alexander, and Weimaraner named Newt Gingrich.
A native of Michigan's Upper Peninsula, Lindsay brings a unique blend of grassroots campaign, association/PAC and issues management experience to The Macomber Group. A graduate of Western Michigan University with a degree in Political Science and a 2008 graduate of the Michigan Political Leadership Program, an esteemed fellowship of the Institute for Public Policy and Social Research at Michigan State University, Lindsay got her start in grassroots politics during the 2004 election.
As Director of the Kalamazoo Victory Center, Lindsay ran one of the most active Michigan Republican Party / Bush-Cheney campaign centers. In that role, she was primarily responsible for turning out grassroots volunteers and voters for numerous successful statewide, congressional, state legislative and local campaigns.
Returning to the Michigan Republican Party for the 2006 election cycle, Lindsay served as Field Director for south-central Michigan, overseeing and coordinating volunteer voter identification and Get-Out-the-Vote efforts in a thirteen-county region for the MRP, the DeVos for Governor campaign, and the party’s entire ticket. The MRP, thanks in part to Lindsay and her counterparts throughout the state, set a record for making approximately 15% of all nationwide volunteer-generated voter contacts (phone and door contacts) over the two-year cycle. With the south-central region also being home to a large number of colleges and universities, Lindsay was a leader in the party’s efforts to involve teenage and college Republicans in the GOP’s efforts. Following the 2006 cycle, Lindsay joined the public policy staff of the Michigan Association of REALTORS ®, one of the state’s largest business advocacy associations. While at the MAR, Lindsay worked with the Vice President of Government Affairs to provide assistance with legislative relations, PAC fundraising, and event planning.
Prior to joining The Macomber Group, Lindsay worked at one of Lansing's premier multi-client lobbying firms, and currently directs fundraising programs for Sterling/TMG, LLC clients.
Every team needs a mascot, and ours is a three year old Weimaraner named Newt....as in Gingrich. Newt serves as The Macomber Group's Director of Morale. His primary responsibilities include security and visitor relations. In his spare time, Newt enjoys napping and chasing "his" cat, Garfield, who apparently is NOT allowed out from under the couch.
